MasterMoney® Debit Card
Michigan Educational Credit
Union's MasterMoney® Debit Card gives you a fast, convenient way
to shop, run errands pay bills and access your cash 24
hours-a-day. With all the convenience of a check card and ATM
card all in one, you can leave your checkbook at home and retire
your old ATM card.
Use it Like a Check
Your Credit Union debit card can
be used at retail merchants displaying the MasterCard® symbol
and at Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals located at gas stations,
grocery stores or restaurants, wherever you see the ML Pay or
Maestro symbols. The credit union does not charge a fee for this
convenience. By using your debit card at these locations, the
amount of your purchase is deducted automatically from your MECU
Draft/Checking account at the time of purchase.
If you would like additional cash
back from your POS transaction, simply tell the sales clerk the
amount you want (cash back amounts vary by retailer). They can
add your requested amount to your total and provide the extra
cash. This can save you an extra trip to an ATM or the credit
union to make a withdrawal.
Use it Like an ATM Card
With your Personal Identification
Number (PIN), your credit union debit card gives you 24 hour
access to your MECU accounts at thousands of ATMs in Michigan,
across the nation and around the world. Just look for an ATM
displaying the SC24, NYSE, MAC or Cirrus logos.
Use it for the Convenience
Managing your money is easy when
using your Credit Union debit card. At most places, you simply
hand the cashier your card and then sign the receipt, just as
you would if you were paying with a credit card. In other places
including some supermarkets and gas stations, you'll need to
enter your PIN. For each debit card purchase, you will receive a
printed receipt so you can record the amount in your checkbook
register at a time convenient for you. Information on each debit
card purchase will be listed on your monthly Draft/Checking
account statement.

What You Need to Know
Q. Do I have to have an MECU Draft/Checking account in order to use
the MECU MasterMoney® Debit Card?
A. Yes
Q. How do I use my debit card as a check?
A. Your debit card works just like a credit card at the point of
purchase. It's easy to get confused because both debit and
credit card transactions are processed the same way. But when
you use your debit card, the amount of the purchase is deducted
from your share draft/checking account within two or three days.
Q. How do I use my debit card as an ATM card?
A. Just like you normally use any ATM card. Use it to get cash 24
hours a day at ATM locations, which display the SC24, NYCE, MAC
or CIRRUS logos.
Q. Should I select "credit" or "debit" for Point-of-Sale (POS)
transactions?
A. When you use your debit card for POS purchases, you have a choice
between pushing the "credit" or "debit" buttons. EITHER OPTION
WILL ACCESS YOUR DRAFT/CHECKING ACCOUNT.
If you choose "credit", the
transaction is faster because you won't have to enter your ATM
PIN. Just sign a receipt and you're done. When you choose the
"credit" button, your purchase is still deducted from your
Draft/Checking account. If you choose "debit", you will be
required to enter your ATM PIN and wait for approval.
When you have a choice between
credit or debit, transactions and the choice does not matter to
you, please select "credit". It is faster and there is a cost
savings to the credit union.
Q. Are there spending limits with my debit card?
A. Yes. Your credit union debit card can only be used up to the
amount of money in your Draft/Checking account. When using your
debit card at an ATM, the standard $500 daily withdrawal limit
applies.
