On Saturday, May 15, Michigan lifted the mask requirements for most indoor and outdoor settings for fully vaccinated individuals, matching newly issued guidance from the CDC.

In accordance with these new guidelines, we ask that members who are not vaccinated, or have not completed their vaccinations, continue to wear a mask or face covering to protect themselves and others while inside an MECU branch. Fully vaccinated members will not be required to wear a mask. To be considered fully vaccinated, it must be 2 weeks after the second dose in a 2-dose series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson's Janssen vaccine.

At this time, MECU employees will continue to wear masks and observe all sanitation practices.

It is important to remember that even though many are fully vaccinated, it does not eliminate the threat of COVID-19. Please continue to practice social distancing and best practices as many state restrictions are still in effect. Thank you for your cooperation in our efforts to ensure everyone's health and safety!

Sadly, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, there are criminals who are looking to take advantage of people's fears. Cyber criminals are sending emails claiming to be from legitimate organizations with information about the coronavirus, government relief checks, and more. Michigan Educational Credit Union would like to remind our members to be alert of these potential scams.

Be on the lookout for suspicious email and text messages, medical supply scams, and fraudulent donation sites that may impersonate a company, charity or government agency. Make sure to verify the authenticity of any website before making any purchases or donations so you do not share sensitive information. If you receive a suspicious email or text message, don't respond, clink on any links, or open attachments. For more information on these recent scams and how to avoid becoming a victim, visit the Federal Trade Commission's website.

As a reminder, MECU would never ask you for your personal information, PIN or login credentials via email.

We would also like to remind you that although our branch lobbies are currently closed to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, our drive-thru service is available during regular business hours at our Plymouth, Livonia, Ann Arbor and Royal Oak offices. We are also providing in-branch service by appointment only under special circumstances at all branch offices, including Brighton and Macomb. You can also contact us toll-free at (888) 261-3355 or locally at (734) 455-9200 during regular business hours so we may better assist you.

Credit unions provide an essential service to their members, especially during times of crisis. Governor Whitmer stressed that critical businesses, including credit unions, will stay open under the "Stay Home, Stay Safe" order.

Michigan Educational Credit Union is a well-capitalized financial institution, putting us in a strong position to endure tough times. In fact, we've received national recognition for our financial health. We've received this rating for 113 consecutive quarters, making us a "Best of Bauer Credit Union" for earning this rating for a minimum of 25 years in a row.
