It has been 11 long weeks since we closed our branch lobbies due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the "Stay Home, Stay Safe" Executive Order. Today, we are very pleased to announce that we will be reopening our branches for lobby service on Monday, June 8.

Although the lobbies will be open during regular business hours from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., we still encourage you to conduct your transactions remotely or through the drive-thru whenever possible to help minimize lobby traffic.

The health and safety of our members and staff remains our first priority, and as a result, we will be instituting the following protocols:

Sadly, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, there are criminals who are looking to take advantage of people's fears. Cyber criminals are sending emails claiming to be from legitimate organizations with information about the coronavirus, government relief checks, and more. Michigan Educational Credit Union would like to remind our members to be alert of these potential scams.

Be on the lookout for suspicious email and text messages, medical supply scams, and fraudulent donation sites that may impersonate a company, charity or government agency. Make sure to verify the authenticity of any website before making any purchases or donations so you do not share sensitive information. If you receive a suspicious email or text message, don't respond, clink on any links, or open attachments. For more information on these recent scams and how to avoid becoming a victim, visit the Federal Trade Commission's website.

As a reminder, MECU would never ask you for your personal information, PIN or login credentials via email.

We would also like to remind you that although our branch lobbies are currently closed to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, our drive-thru service is available during regular business hours at our Plymouth, Livonia, Ann Arbor and Royal Oak offices. We are also providing in-branch service by appointment only under special circumstances at all branch offices, including Brighton and Macomb. You can also contact us toll-free at (888) 261-3355 or locally at (734) 455-9200 during regular business hours so we may better assist you.

For the latest MECU news and information, please check our website and our social media platforms (Facebook and Twitter: @michedcu).

As our country continues to cope with the COVID-19 outbreak, your Michigan Educational Credit Union team remains committed to serving you and your families while reducing and minimizing exposure to any health threats. Thank you for your membership and your trust.

Today, someone who has been in our Plymouth Main Office informed us that they have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

To ensure that we take every precaution for the safety of our employees and members, our Plymouth branch, including our drive-thru lanes, will be closed on Wednesday, April 1, and Thursday, April 2. This will enable us to deep clean and disinfect the entire office. Our ATMs have been thoroughly sanitized and will be available for use while the branch is closed.

At this time, we plan to reopen the drive-thru lanes during regular business hours at our Plymouth branch on Friday, April 3. If you need drive-thru service in the meantime, we suggest that you visit our Livonia branch at 14921 Middlebelt Road, located in front of the Westborn Market just south of 5 Mile Road. Our Ann Arbor and Royal Oak branches are also available for drive-thru service.

You can also contact us toll-free at (888) 261-3355 or locally at (734) 455-9200 during regular business hours. Our staff will be working remotely and will be happy to assist you.

For the latest MECU news and information, including branch closings, please check our website and our social media platforms (Facebook and Twitter: @michedcu).

We will continue to assess and take steps to help promote the health and safety of our employees and our members. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience during these turbulent times.

This morning, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced the "Stay Home, Stay Safe" Executive Order in reaction to the rising cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the state. Taking effect at midnight tonight, the order directs all nonessential offices and businesses to close for the next three weeks. It also directs Michiganders to stay in their homes and avoid contact with others.

Credit unions provide an essential service to their members, especially during times of crisis. Governor Whitmer stressed that critical businesses, including credit unions, will stay open under the "Stay Home, Stay Safe" order.

Although our branch lobbies are closed to limit foot traffic and help prevent the spread of COVID-19, our drive-thru service will remain available during regular business hours at our Plymouth, Livonia, Ann Arbor and Royal Oak offices. We are also providing in-branch service by appointment only under special circumstances. You can also contact us toll-free at (888) 261-3355 or locally at (734) 455-9200 during regular business hours so we may better assist you.

Once again, we encourage you to manage your accounts from home 24/7 using our Internet Home Banking and Mobile Banking services to view transactions, check balances, transfer funds, make payments and more. You can also deposit checks using the Remote Deposit Capture (RDC) feature that's available on the MichEd Mobile App. You can even make loan payments directly through our website at www.michedcu.org. Our digital tools are designed to be easy to use, empowering you to take control of your MECU accounts no matter where you are. If you're new to these free services, click-thru demos are available on our website so you can try them out before your enroll.

Michigan Educational Credit Union is a well-capitalized financial institution, putting us in a strong position to endure tough times. In fact, we've received national recognition for our financial health. This month we received another 5-Star Superior rating from BauerFinancial, the nation's leading independent bank and credit union rating and research firm. We've received this rating for 113 consecutive quarters, making us a "Best of Bauer Credit Union" for earning this rating for a minimum of 25 years in a row. We've also been named to the DepositAccounts list of the Top 200 Healthiest Credit Unions in America for the past six years.

For the latest MECU news and information, please check our website and our social media platforms (Facebook and Twitter: @michedcu).

Stay home, stay safe, and rest assured that your money is safe with Michigan Educational Credit Union. If we all work together, we can make it through this.
